Barnes and Noble Overview:

No one wants to know everyone’s darkest secrets, especially not police officer, Nicole Keenan. All she wants is a blissfully normal life in the small, Alabama town where she was born. But as generations of power running through her veins start to wake up, an ancient grudge is ignited that threatens to push her over the edge. She can hardly believe in what she is, let alone that a dark force will not stop until she's joins them. Or is dead.

Nicole Keenan's life enters into a dangerous dance with warriors and gothic fairies. Southern tradition collides with Irish folklore as she learns about love, heartbreak, and The Burden of Blood.

My Take:

Burden of Blood takes place a few years later where Blood Awakening ended. Nicole had just learned her gift of hearing evil thoughts of those around her. Now she is a police officer, and a darn good one, using her gift to put evil minds behind bars.

Nicole doesn't have a life, keeping herself away from the social scene in order to block the invading thoughts that she hears. She feels she is a freak, and keeps her gift a secret from her best friend Kat and her partner on the force, Luke. Only her father knows her secret. Nicole is constantly turning Luke's advances down, fearing there is no way she could carry on a relationship and deal with the voices.

When I first read Blood Awakening, the short story that gives you insight into how Nicole gets her gift, I was so taken by the plot. I cursed the skies above wondering how the author could only give us a few pages, when the story was screaming for more. No, not really. But I was facinated by the plot and was definitely ready for more. Thankfully I didn't have to wait long for Burden of Blood.

I am so glad we were introduced to more characters, including the ever sexy Rhys. I found him to be a hoot, even though it was hard to understand him at times. You'll understand once you read it. But Luke stole my heart and apparently Nicoles too. But there were times I wanted to smack Nicole and say "Open your eyes... gobble him up before someone else does".

Lots of twists and turns in this fast paced paranormal read. This is an author you will want to watch out for.

Must Read!! ;)
