Review: Taste by Kate Evangelista

Title: Taste

Author: Kate Evangelista

goodreads...
At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans.

When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn’t realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.

My take...
There is one rule at the prestigious school of Barinkoff...do not break curfew. And that is exactly what Phoenix does after falling asleep in the library. But what she finds is not the school janitor…it’s something more sinister. There are Night Students attending the school and they want to Taste Phoenix’s skin. So when a gorgeous guy comes to her rescue and takes her back to the dorms, Phoenix is curious to what her school is hiding after dark. The people and things she comes across change’s her world forever…hopefully she just might make it out alive.
After just a few pages in I was completely smitten with this book and Kate’s writing. She wrote a great book that quickly captures a reader. And there are some really awesome characters too I might add. I noticed that someone mentioned in their review Phoenix being an annoying teenage girl. How so? Because to me she is just curious about everything that was laid out in front of her. If she wasn’t curious…we wouldn’t have a story. Wouldn’t you be curious if someone told you they wanted to taste you? Freaked out? Yes, but curious too!
Being a huge fan of zombies…I loved the author’s take on them. But if you cannot fathom even the idea of flesh being ‘tasted’ then this book is not for you. Because really that’s all it is folks…just an idea being thrown around. The book is not gory or disgusting like some zombie reads are. Actually I found the whole storyline very intriguing and couldn’t get enough. So remember this when you are deciding if you want to read this book….Zombies gotta eat too right? *snickers*
Seriously peeps, this book had it all for me: nail biting suspense, romance with a splash of a triangle added to it, secrets, and fabulous (yummy) characters. I loved the storyline and at the end I was in need of more. Yes, I liked the way it ended but why stop there Kate…lets continue on the story please! I need more Demitri AND Luka…lots more!
