Dark Waltz--A sizzling legend of loss, lust and love.

It’s the year 2030 and the human population has been annihilated by a virulent form of small pox. Liasare Davidson is desperately searching for her brother, who has been missing for three months. It’s been eighteen years since she was evacuated from Earth and she is horrified to see it’s become a cesspool of unimaginable things.

In her quest to find her brother, she meets Jurek, a powerful and enigmatic being that frightens her, yet she is unable to resist. When things begin to unfold between them, they both discover a paralyzing truth that puts Liasare at grave risk. She must make a choice to join Jurek and find her brother or fulfill a role she believes she is ill equipped to undertake.

My take...
I am just going to go ahead and spit out the things I did not like about this book. I hated, hated, and hated Jurek. He is annoying, mean, spiteful, arrogant, abusive, and an absolute man whore. I hated how one minute he would have Liasare pinned up against the wall by the throat threatening her and in the next breathe he would vow never to hurt her. Not to never hurt her again...but to never hurt her. Um, wait a minute? Didn't you just have her pinned against the wall, cutting off her oxygen to the point of almost passing out? Yeah. I am so not into that type of guy.

The other thing is I thought that Liasare needed to man up some. And no, ugly words and language doesn't make you a grown up. I actually agreed with Jurek in that respect. She could have toned down her words. It only made her look childish. But the thing is she needed to take a step back from Jurek and see that he is not her Prince Charming. She needs to see him for what he is...an alien that is mean and abusive.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way let me tell you what I did love about Dark Waltz. I loved Jurek. I know, I am totally contradicting myself now aren’t I? Well guess what? I don’t care. Yeah I hated him the first half of the book. But the second half I thought he finally started redeeming himself and became such a great character. I guess I had to look at it this way…he is an alien. He was not raised the way humans were…to have emotions, to love things, to care for things, to find things sacred. So giving him the benefit of the doubt, I started coming around to liking him and thought he was really a great guy…most of the time.

Even Liasare started growing on me. With her being human, raised in a world that has gone to hell and knowing the things I did about her growing up, I understood where Liasare's actions and language came from. She had walls set up and trust was not something she gave away freely. Slowly we start to see those walls come down a little bit at a time. And its then that I started to like her more and more.

I really liked the story line and found myself craving it when I was away from my nook. I loved that Liasare risked everything to come to Earth in search of her brother. She was a woman who put it all on the line for the one person she loved the most. She was willing to do just about anything to find him, even if it was leaving the comforts and safety of her home. And if she just happened to find someone to love along the way…then that was the sacrifice she was willing to make. ;)

I suggest Dark Waltz to those who enjoy a good adult read with a captivating story line and love an infuriating male lead; the kind that makes you want to slap him one minute and dry hump him the next.
Oh yeah, I went there.

  4. Thanks for hosting a stop and reviewing the book Mandy! I agree that Jurek was a bit infuriating. I found myself getting more emotionally involved because of it so maybe it was partly a good thing. He was easy to love and easy to hate, all at the same time!
