Goodbye I Read Indie, hello Mandy Reads Indie

I have decided, it’s finally time to officially close my blog and move things over to Instagram. My blog has brought me so much joy over the years...until it didn’t. What started out as a labor of love, ended up feeling like straight labor. The kind without an epidural and those contractions are coming in hot.

I didn’t like going over here to post reviews and would sometimes go weeks without sharing anything. (Ok, maybe even months.) I quit signing up for book tours because I knew it would mean signing in and spending too long at my computer getting html’s to work or images to stay right where I wanted them. The thought of it all absolutely exhausted me. Then Blogger went and janked up their formatting. (I am still not over that betrayal.)

I soon discovered how simple and time reducing IG could be. Along with that came my new hobby of making edits for books. While I am far from being a Bookstagrammer, (those guys are beyond talented) I find posting on IG so much less stressful.

So, goodbye Blogger & hello Instagram. Goodbye I Read Indie, hello Mandy Reads Indie.

I will keep my blog up for anyone still searching out books, reviews or old interviews. But there will be no new updated posts.

A lot  of you follow me on my personal IG acct @booknerd1 and it’s fine if you’d like to follow both. But my book only acct is @Mandyreadsindie. Message me for reviews or shares. Always happy to help. So, give me a follow over there and say hi!!

p.s. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the authors I have met over the last decade through the blog. An even bigger thank you to KA Tucker and Shelly Crane for making me get out of my comfort zone and start writing reviews. Those were the first 2 authors to nudge me into reviewing. And I honestly didn’t think anyone would want to hear what I had to say. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the authors that nominated me and this blog for awards such as Blog of the Year. My heart is full!!

Brody McCallister was only supposed to be a means to an end. My golden ticket to get me closer to what I really needed—a way to make peace with what I’d done when I was eighteen, dirt poor, and left to fend for myself.

I only had six weeks in the middle of a hectic world tour to do it.

So the last thing I needed was to fall for a cocky cowboy. A walking contradiction with a charming grin, a dirty mouth, and a gift for healing wild and broken things.

His life was in Texas.

Mine was on the road.

He guarded his privacy fiercely.

I was constantly hounded by paparazzi.

Everyone warned me it could never work, that ultimately I’d be forced to choose—my music career or him.

I didn’t listen. I fell for him anyway.

Hook, line, and proverbial sinker.

 But Brody was hiding secrets.

And when the storm finally broke, it destroyed everything in its wake ... including us.

Now Live: SMOKE & MIRRORS by Michelle B #5StarReview

Lilah
One night is all it took.
One night changed all of my plans.
One night laid a road map out for the rest of my life.

My heart now belongs to him- Antonio Robert Heart, the underboss of the Heart Syndicate that governs over New York and its five boroughs. He rules with an unwavering hand yielding the blade of his knife, but when his strong hands touch me, I become liquid. I melt into his all-consuming prowess.

The thing is, he doesn't want me... even though he craves me.

Antonio
I don’t date. I don’t love. I don’t want marriage and I do not want children. I only allow myself companionship when the desire is there.

Lilah Tomlinson was supposed to be one night-one hour at the most.

I was a fool.

My desire for her prevailed and I let her in... only to find out she has betrayed me. That muscle in my chest, the one she has penetrated and brought to life, it shrivels with the worst kind of anger: WRATH.

AMAZON  GOODREADS

I am literally kicking myself right now. I started BREATHE WITH ME, which was Caelen & Sofia’s story, a while back. But another arc came up and I had to put it away. Bad thing is, I never got around to finishing it. Not that this story couldn’t be a standalone. It absolutely could. But there is so much back story and characters I would love to know more about had I read all of the Heart Series. There is so much to love about all these other characters.

Ok, onward we go into my thoughts of Antonio & Lilah’s story. I remember going along and enjoying their story and being “yeah this is an ok read” when the “oh what the heck did Lilah just say?” part happened. I had to read those last few sentences of that chapter a couple times. Then the rest of the story became like “hell yeah that’s what I’m talking about” kind of read. I was 100% reading whenever I could. I was in deep once that secret twist was revealed and only found myself sinking deeper as the story continued on and the twists kept coming.

Antonio is a complete alpha a-hole. He did nothing for me from the beginning. Up until halfway through that is. Then I was giving him lusty side eyes, knowing there was more to him. Of course he showed his alpha a-hole side a few more times, but I was willing to let those slide. I had faith he would redeem himself from his a-hole’ish tendencies.

SKOKE AND MIRRORS was a delicious, well written story that has me eager for what comes next for the Hearts. All the stars!!

Now Live: DON'T KISS THE BRIDE by Carian Cole

Title: Don't Kiss the Bride
Author: Carian Cole
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 1, 2021

BLURB

I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and he was my knight in shining armor.

But more accurately, I was a girl with a lot of bad luck, and he was a guy with a lot of muscles and tattoos.

Jude “Lucky” Lucketti wasn’t just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero who seemed to be in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room.

Those weren’t exactly my best moments, but they were his.

We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars, and our aversion to relationships.

When he approached me with a crazy idea to help me out, I couldn’t say no.

The arrangement was supposed to be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else.

It should’ve been easy, but it wasn’t.

Because here I am, eighteen years-old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.

We had just one rule—no kissing the bride.

But we broke that rule, and it sealed our fate forever.

We met Jude back in ASHER, when he saved Asher from a mugging and they spent the night venting their marital problems to one another over drinks in his uncle’s bar. I was absolutely intrigued then and couldn’t wait to read his story to know more about his young bride.

This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. One second I would be on wonderful wave of euphoric bliss when things were going well for both Jude and Skylar, only to be in the gutters of heartbreak in the next breath when it seemed like everyone and everything was out to ruin them. For the most part, I hated the path that life took them on. It was riddled with turmoil and hurt a lot of the time, but it was definitely needed in order for them to come to where they needed to be. A place they needed to find before either could give of themselves.

DON’T KISS THE BRIDE is most definitely my favorite of Cole’s. It was beautifully written and told such a powerful story. One I won’t soon forget. 5 Stars!

Now Live: THE PATRIOT by Jennifer Millikin #4StarReview

I’m a soldier.

A cattle rancher.

A Hayden.

My family’s legacy is spread out in front of me, just waiting for me to seize it. If it weren’t for one outdated rule, I’d be the owner of the Hayden Cattle Company and my aging father could retire.

When Dakota Wright shows up to buy and develop twenty acres of Hayden land, I see more than a pretty mouth and strawberry blonde hair. I see a way around the decree keeping me from getting what I want.

And, as luck would have it, Dakota has a big problem of her own. We strike two deals: one for the land, and a second that’ll make both our problems a distant memory.

It isn’t too long before I realize I’m in over my head. I’ve convinced myself the ends should justify the means, but everything begins to fall apart when my birthright is no longer all that I’m after.

I never thought there’d be anything I could love more than my ranch and my country.

I was wrong.

Turns out, I want it all.

Including her.

This one started a little too slow for my taste and was very lack luster until around 70% in. Not a lot going on and I ended up taking several days to read it. But once we got to the last 30%, it got better and I was pleasantly surprised with the turn of events. I mean, I kind of figured how some things would come to play out, but it was still a good, strong finish. It even had me interested in the books that will follow for the Hayden men. I am definitely glad I read it after how it finished. I need a book like that every now and then to balance out all the angsty ones I am used to reading lately. I will be checking out more of this author's work. .All in all, a good, 4 star read by a new to me author.

#TPRD-15

She’s late.

Dakota was supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago and I feel like a dumbass for being so keenly aware of that. Watching the clock like a whipped schoolboy. Pathetic.

I walk away from the window that faces the road, and go to the kitchen to rinse out my coffee cup and set it on the drying rack. Somewhere in the distance, a car door slams shut.

Before I open the front door, I’m careful to rearrange my features. Cool indifference is what I’m going for, maybe with a side of I forgot you and everything about that night.

I pull open the door just in time to watch Dakota falter on the second step. She regains her footing and keeps going. When she notices me standing in the open door, she stops short, her eyes wide, and she sucks her bottom lip between her teeth.

Jesus… this girl. How am I going to spend a morning with her in my truck? From three feet away I can smell her sweet, mouthwatering scent, the same one I couldn’t define that night at the lake and don’t have a prayer of defining now.

Her jeans are so tight she might as well have them painted on, and they’re tucked into cowboy boots. I draw in a shaky breath, but it doesn’t quite fill my lungs.

“You’re late,” I say, and it sounds angry even though I don’t mean it to be. I don’t like the way she puts me off-kilter.

“My apologies,” she says tartly, in a way that conveys she isn’t sorry in the least.

A throat clears and we both follow the noise with our eyes. Gramps sits in a chair, watching us. I must not have noticed him when I was looking out the window. I was too busy watching for Dakota.

He stares at me, waiting for me to introduce him. “Dakota, this is Leroy Hayden, my grandpa. Gramps, this is Dakota.”

Dakota walks over and shakes his hand. “It’s nice to meet you,” she tells him, smiling down at him.

I can already tell he is dazzled by her. “You can just call me Gramps. Are you a friend of Wes’s?” The excitement in his voice at me possibly having a friend is mortifying.

“Uh, no.” Dakota shakes her head. “I’m here on business.”

Gramps turns a confused look to me. “We need to get going, Gramps, but Dad is inside. He can explain the business that Dakota is here for.” To Dakota, I say, “Ready?”

“It was nice to meet you, Gramps.” She winks at him and turns, going back down the steps.

For a moment I’m frozen, struck dumb by the sway of her hips and remembering the night she was swinging them on the dance floor.

I hurry after her. “This way,” I tell her, chucking my chin sideways toward the side of the house where I park my truck.

She keeps three feet between us as we walk, and I can feel her silent questions coming at me through the separation.

TEMPTED was absolutely fantastic. It had me completely absorbed in the story and embedded straight up in these character’s lives from the start. The book was absolutely raw and gritty to the nature of addiction. I felt, for once, an author got it right when it comes to addiction and the people who deal daily with the temptations their vice brings. A lot of times it seems authors will gloss over the reality of it and have characters being stronger than they really are. Harrison made no such mistake with this book and Bailey’s addiction. For once we see the daily struggles an addict deals with.

Bailey was an amazing girl. I rooted for her and hoped she would kick her addiction to the curb and stay clean. My heart kicked my rear in my chest when things got scary for her and things got questionable. But man, this story had it’s grip in me good. I couldn’t stop reading even if I tried. It was all I did today.

TEMPTED is without a doubt a definite must read. I absolutely recommend. So far all I have read of Harrison’s book have been must read material. Grab it and fall for Drew and Bailey. 5 Stars!
