goodreads...
It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.
As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.
Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.
My take...
Steampunk genres are a little hard for me to relate to. Not having read very many, they are sometimes hard for me to get into reading. But not Destiny’s Fire, oh no, I was hooked from the get go. Dez and her friends are out to figure out why the people they were raised to hate and defend themselves against are being allowed into their haven and their school. Why would the Council allow this to happen? What good will come from all of it? And most of all...why is Dez falling for one of them?
There is so much goodness flowing through this book. Yes, there is a love triangle and I know lots of people hate triangles but this one is very tolerable. I personally have no problems with triangles as long as the person I want to win wins.  Ok, moving on.  Like I said there is a love triangle, hot romance scenes, lots of fighting/action happening and it’s all rolled into one amazing, yummy storyline. And there are tons of epic twists and turns throughout the book. The guys are quite scrumptious too. I for one am Team Reese. I thought I would be leaning more towards Jace at the first, but as things developed, I was la la loving Reese.
Trisha Wolfe wrote a fabulous story full of strong characters, a unique plot and one heck of an ending.  Destiny’s Fire’s awesomeness will linger in the back of your mind long after you finish the book. Most definitely will have this book on my reread list!

  1. Lovely review! I have seen an equal amount of Team Reese and Team Jace readers - seems to be divided. Can't wait to read this :)
