Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough. Let it be her
job, her weight, her love life, nothing, she was convinced she couldn’t do
anything right. She had walked through life for the past six years in a daze,
never thinking that life could be good again after the abuse she endured from
her ex boyfriend. She is lonely, sad, and depressed, that is until she meets
Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Nashville
Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her
world.
Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She is feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her.
Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life. But Elli just doesn’t understand what Shea could see in her. She is overweight, loud, and not even that pretty, so why would someone so gorgeous and so amazing want to be with her? It seemed that no matter how hard she tried to shake Shea off, he wasn’t going anywhere, and for the first time Elli didn’t feel alone.
But could Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her? Or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy?
Would Elli miss her shot at love?

My take...
In this amazing story we meet gorgeous Shea, captain of the
Nashville Assassins. He is tired of living the playboy life and thanks to Elli,
that's all the more reason to quit it. The minute he lays eyes on her,
something in him sparked; he thought she was beautiful and had to know her.
Of course Elli has always had a crush on Shea Adler, her
favorite player on the hockey team. But why would he want anything to do with
her? She knows his type: blonde, leggy and skinny. Everything Elli is not. And
thanks to the low life of an ex-boyfriend and her horrible family constantly
putting her down, Elli's insecurities are mounting by the second. Will Shea be
able to convince her she is a beautiful person inside and out; and that any guy
would be lucky to have her in their life? Or will a cruel past rear its ugly
head and tell her she is not good enough for the likes of Shea Adler?
I have been fortunate enough to have been reading some really
amazing books lately. And we can add Taking Shots to the list. It didn’t take
long into the story to fall for the crazy, sexy characters. They are funny,
smart and downright adoring. Shea is your typical guy, but he is tired of the
girls and the playboy life he has been living. He is ready for something real,
and his family couldn’t be happier.
Elli is a unique character, thanks
to a horrible past, Elli is consistently in need of reassurance that she is
somewhat worthy of Shea’s attention. Just when we think that Elli is making
progress she experiences something that knocks her back to start all over. It’s
gonna take lots of kisses and convincing from Shea to let her know that she IS
worthy, she IS smart, and she IS amazingly sexy.
What I loved most about the book was the storyline. Toni took
something so simple and made it into a brilliant love story. Taking Shots is a love
story that I could not get enough of. I laughed, I cried, I screamed and I
swooned. I love my books to have a romance and this one did. Oh boy did it
ever! *fans self* I am telling you, if this was me (and I was single of course)
I wouldn’t have had the kind of will power Miss Elli did. Geez, she was a
freakin rock for standing her ground.
I enjoyed how the story was hockey related, a sport I have never
given much thought to. So, I may have to pause the channel surfing next time I
see it on tv and check out the man meat, er, I mean the game. I also enjoyed
how this story was based in Nashville. I love that town and hearing Toni talk
about certain places I have been was fun. Makes the story come more alive when
the setting is an actual place and one that I know.
So I will end my review with one final thought…FREAKING READ
THIS BOOK! You want a hot love story with some great characters? Then this is
the one for you. Toni will not make it easy for these 2 to stay together, she
is gonna make them work for it. And you will want to be there with them the
