goodreads...
It’s two weeks before Triss turns 18, and her world is about to
change into the most magical one imaginable as she readies herself to enter The
Witch Avenue Order... that is until her mother’s disappearance. Instead of
celebrating her transformation, she finds herself spreading rose petals into
her mother’s empty grave.
When Logan, her best friend from junior high, moves back to town for college, he vows to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As they begin uncovering clues, it becomes apparent that the life of white magic they both grew up loving is not what the majority practices, and their lives are in danger.
With a haunting feeling that her mother may still be alive, she begins to hear a call to the wilderness. Triss realizes that in order to find the answers she needs, she must learn the ways of her ancestors and become the hunter, not the hunted before it’s too late, and she becomes part of the lonely souls.

My take...
A couple weeks before Triss turns 18 her life is forever
changed. Her mother has gone missing and those around here believe she is dead.
But Triss believes she may still be alive and in trouble.
The day of her mother’s memorial Triss gets locked in the cooler
at her mom's flower shop and that is when she witnesses for the first time Black
Magic. Believing her mother's disappearance and the Black Magic are related,
she knows she has to find her before it is too late. But will the growing
feelings she is experiencing with Logan get in the way of finding her? Or will
his knowledge of Black Magic be the help she needs to find her mother and bring
her home?
I am a huge fan of Bolton’s other work, The watcher’s Trilogy.
So when I saw she was writing a new series I knew I had to read it. Yes I will
miss Ana and Athen, but I have a feeling I will love Triss and Logan just as
much. Bolton has a way of giving us characters you can’t help but fall in love
with and feel emotionally attached to. And the relationship between these two develops at a much slower pace than what I was used to in The Watcher's Trilogy. I liked that too. But at times I wanted to slap a little sense into Triss and tell her to see a good thing when it's right in front of you.
Again, as I have stated in a previous review, I am not a huge
witch storyline fan. But with this being a book written by Bolton I had to give
it a try. So glad I did too. I thought it was all so very interesting. Lonely
Souls was an intriguing story that leaves us with more questions unanswered
than answered in the end. Is her mom still alive; and if so where is she? What role does
her father, the man who left her when she was just a baby, play in the
disappearance? And should Triss give herself wholly to Logan without the guilt?
I am really looking forward to book 2 so we can see more of the story unfold
and hopefully get some answers.
