The End of the World As We Know It Blog Tour {Top 10 with Iva-Marie Palmer}

Tour Sign Ups: The End of the World as We Know It by Iva Marie Palmer

Iva-Marie Palmer is the author of The End of the World As We Know It, a sci-fi action comedy from Alloy Entertainment (creators of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries). Come talk about your favorite all-chocolate dinners with her online on Twitter (@ivamarie), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ivamariebooks) and at her website (www.ivamariepalmer.com).

1. guilty pleasure? I am missing the chip where I feel guilty about pleasures. I’ve got a hedonist mindset, probably. Maybe I feel a little guilty for reading celebrity magazines and magazines that are basically catalogs of things I can’t afford anyway. And maybe for sometimes eating dinners where the main food group is chocolate. But not that guilty.

2. 1 book you could read over and over? Oh my, this list is long. I have a hard time going back to books because there are so many I want to read, and honestly, I have dozens I want to read again but haven’t yet because there are always more books. “Always More Books” should be on my family crest. But, right now, I’d really love to reread Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling books again (Sloppy Firsts, etc.) I feel like those books are a particularly slurp-downable word cocktail. I get drunk on them.

 3. fictional character you would love to spend the day with? Willie Wonka. You read the thing I said about eating chocolate for dinner, right?

4. one thing you cannot leave the house without? Since I was a kid, I’ve never been able to go anywhere without a book. I still bring a book in the car wherever I go, and on long trips I’ll confess to having more than one in an overfilled tote bag. I have this weird survivalist thing where I really believe I’m going to be trapped somewhere remote and I’ll need supplies. Most people would want water and some rations in that situation, but I’m more worried about being bored and bookless than going hungry. In other words, don’t ever go out to the desert with me.

5. fav song/singer? It’s hard to choose just one, and I have a long list of songs I will sing along with in the car (and badly.) I’ve long loved the Rolling Stones and the songs “Happy”  and “(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” that can make me drop most anything and sing along. I’ve also sometimes sang “Sympathy for the Devil” to my baby, just because I know the words and think I sound cool. Probably not the ideal lullaby.

6. hobby? I write and read so much I no longer count them as hobbies, because they’re both more like breathing. Past those, I don’t have any overwhelming hobby, beyond trying to do a little bit of everything. I love cooking, when I have time. I love fashion and poring over fashion magazines. Good TV, good movies – classic cinema is a hobby, too. I am interested in so many things that I often feel like a dilettante, but not in a totally bad way.  Is being a dilettante a hobby?

7. fave movie/actor and or/actress? I have flirtations with modern-day hearthtrobs, like Ryan Gosling, and so on, but I love Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and Gregory Peck much more. And William Powell, of the Thin Man movies – he’s fairly amazing and so very cool.

8. one place you would love to visit? I’m dying to go to Japan, for many reasons. Not least of all the multicoloredness of Tokyo and all the random cuteness to be found in vending machines and shops there.
9. fav food? Pizza, hands down. But I moved from Chicago to L.A. so I basically resigned myself to a life of subpar pizza. Luckily, I also love a good burger and the burgers you get on the beach here are the best.

10. fav color? This also changes but red often is my fallback. In college, my car had a bright red interior. It was like driving around a giant maraschino cherry and I loved it. However, I somehow always wind up with blue purses, so maybe blue. I have a Pinterest board called Mad for Multicoloredness, so basically, I want all the colors, all together, all the time. Rainbows and kaleidoscopes make me very happy, as does the 96-count box of Crayolas.
