goodreads...
When you're lost, sometimes the only place
you can go is home.
Broken over the death of her fiancé, Molly
leaves law school to return to her childhood home in North Carolina. Expecting
to lay low until she can figure out what else to do with her life, she finds
herself in the arms of her high school sweetheart, the boy who represents
everything from the past she tried to leave behind.
Looking for an escape, she instead finds a
way back to the girl she almost forgot existed and a future she never dreamed
possible.
My take...
Molly decided one day she had enough of Law
School...so she packs a bag and heads back home to North Carolina. But no
matter where she goes she is always surrounded by her past and haunted by her
dreams. Going home unearths old feelings and new fears for Molly. But will she
be able to overcome her fears that are trying so desperately to overcome her?
I am on the fence about this one. I love Ivy's
other work (Flight, Beckoning Light, Perilous Light) but this one was just ok
for me. It was good don’t get me wrong but it just
wasn’t great. I think to me it would have been a lot better had there been a
little more history to Molly and her friends back at home. Had we known a
little more about them I would have connected more with them and the book. The story had great potential to be one of a kind, but with history lacking it was
just a good read.
Like I said, I didn’t connect well with the
characters, but I enjoyed them none the less. I liked Ben from the moment he was
mentioned. I would have loved to hear more from him and what he does during the
day. You know…working on the boat…getting sweaty…out in the hot, hot sun. Yes I
think a book solely about Ben is just what I need. Perhaps reading it while gazing
at him? Ivy, you realllly need to get me a story about Ben. I loves him so.
But I did not like Gavin, well I didn’t
hate him, he just gave off the creep vibes. At first I thought he could be
the one that helps Molly overcome her past and helps her move on. But as time
went by, and he kept popping up everywhere he clearly was not wanted, I felt he
came off a bit stalkerish. I think I liked Molly ok. I like that she took the initiative
to leave school when it obviously wasn’t working for her. But I just felt like
we didn’t know enough about her to love her. I will say I liked her a lot better
after her sister comes, giving us that much needed look into Molly’s life.
I actually would love to read book 2, Veer, to see
where things go with Gavin and Becca. I think with the right woman he could
finally redeem himself in my eyes. So if you are looking for a story about a
girl who can (hopefully) overcome the sadness and pain of her past and (hopefully) find a
future full of love and happiness, then this book is definitely for you.

I really liked this one and I liked Gavin too. LOL He was a bit overbearing at times, but in the end I wanted him to find someone too. :)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to Veer to see how it all plays out for him :)
