Review: BETWEEN THE LINES by Tammara Webber

Title: BETWEEN THE LINES

goodreads...
When Hollywood It Boy, Reid Alexander, arrives on location to shoot his next movie, his goals are the same as always—film another blockbuster hit and enjoy his celebrity status to the fullest while doing so. His costar is a virtual unknown with whom he had blazing hot chemistry during her auditions. The universe is lining up nicely to grant whatever he wants, as usual, until he’s confronted with unexpected obstacles on location like a bitter ex-girlfriend and a rival for the first girl to spark his genuine interest in years.

Emma Pierce just got her big break after more than a decade of filming commercials for grape juice, department stores and tampons, and more recently, bit parts in made-for-TV movies. Nailing the lead role in a wide-release film sent her agent, father and stepmother into raptures, and should have done the same for her. The Problem? Emma is experiencing a building desire to be normal, and starring in a silly, modernized adaptation of one of her favorite novels—opposite the very hot Reid Alexander—isn’t going to advance that aspiration.

Graham Douglas doesn’t fear playing the part of a nerdy dimwit; when it comes to choosing film roles, if it pays, he’ll do it. Besides, his friend Brooke Cameron snatched up the role of the bitchy hot girl and could use his help as a buffer, because her ex is the star. Graham has no problem keeping a handle on the situation, until he finds himself attracted to Reid’s costar, Emma, the girl Reid is pursuing full-throttle with his standard arsenal of charm, good looks and arrogance.

My take...
I had to check out more work by Tammara Webber after reading EASY, so I picked up BETWEEN THE LINES. But, honestly I just wasn't all that impressed with a certain character: Reid. I thought he was arrogant, shallow, and an absolute horndog. I never saw the appeal in him and I couldn't understand why Emma wanted to even be with him. It is not like he had any redeeming qualities.

But if you want to chat about Graham then I will be more than happy to gush. I just loved him. Like love-love him. He was so very mysterious and you could never quite nail him down. But that is ok, because it just made me adore him more. I like a guy with some secrets…makes the story more interesting too. I only wished we would have gotten his POV instead of Reid’s. I would cringe when it got to his parts. I really hope I like him in the next books because I hear he gets better later on in the series.

I actually thought about putting the book down due to my hatred for Reid, but I enjoyed Graham too much to let that happen. I had to know if he and Emma would get together in the story. I enjoyed some of the other characters too but didn’t feel the connection to them like I did with Erin in EASY. I think because there were too many to really connect and know them.

I was a little taken back when a certain secret was revealed; which is surprising since I kind of thought it all along. I guess Webber is just that good at taking your mind off certain things until she is ready for you to actually see it. But I was glad the way it all turned out in the end. I went ahead and bought WHERE YOU ARE so I could start it ASAP. I have to know what happens. Does Emma end up with Reid or Graham? *insert maniac laugh here*

So far, I am loving this series and look forward to more of it as I proceed on to book 2. I recommend this book to any chick lit fan out there. It is definitely worth the read.
