1,135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.
As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “ I
heart
Sam Green ” T-shirt Harper promised she'd have on.
To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.
My take...
This was such a cute read. I just adored the
relationship between Cat and West. Their banter was fun to read about and I
caught myself laughing out loud several times. But there were also the times
that I found myself hurting with Cat. I hated that she went through this all by
herself it seems. To be honest, even though West was 'dealing' with this new
proclamation of Cat being in love with him, I still thought he was very
selfish. Everything that went on he turned on himself and was always worried
about how it affected him. Even when he started realizing he had feelings for
her that went beyond friends, he would quickly shut them down and focus on his
needs and feelings.
But even though I thought he was selfish through
it all, I did like him. In fact, I think I would have thought the story unbelievable
if he acted any other way. He does have a lot to deal with concerning his
father and now finding out that his best friend is in love with him. So I gave
him the benefit of the doubt. But what was great about it all was his feelings
were not instant love when he finds out that Cat has been playing the role of
Harper this entire time. I loved seeing West deal and try to accept her
feelings but still try to stay 'just friends'. It is not an easy road and they
do have a lot to work through.
There is something though that I would have loved
to have seen and that would have been Cat's POV played out in the book. I
really think she had a lot to bring to the story. To be able to see how she
felt and how it all affected her would have brought about more emotion too, I believe.
I liked this girl and would have loved to have heard more of her 'voice'
throughout the story. Even without her side of the story I still enjoyed this
book. It was so cute and fun.
CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE was such a great read and
really quick too. I flew through the story and absolutely loved the flow of it
all. It is a perfect YA read (with some minor language) that any one is sure to
enjoy.

ReplyDeleteI wonder where those massive books are? Very cool.
This book sounds like it will be a fun read and also a little awkward for the characters. Makes for a good story! Those huge books must be a library somewhere - love it!!
