goodreads...
Joclyn Despain has been marred by a brand on her skin. She doesn't know why the mark appeared on her neck, but she doesn't want anyone to see it, including her best friend Ryland, who knows everything else about her. The scar is the reason she hides herself behind baggy clothes, and won't let the idea of kissing Ryland enter her mind, no matter how much she wants to.
The scar is the reason she is being hunted.

If only she knew that she was.

If only she had known that the cursed stone her estranged father sent for her 16th birthday would trigger a change in her. Now, she is being stalked by a tall blonde man, and is miraculously throwing her high school bully ten feet in the air.

Joclyn attempts to find some answers and the courage to follow her heart. When Ryland finds her scar; only he knows what it means, and who will kill her because of it.

My take...
KISS OF FIRE reminded me some of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series and a few other books mixed together. It was absolutely great to read and hard to put down. Unfortunately I wasn't able to devote a lot of time to it when I first picked it up. But once I was able to sit down and read it, I flew through the pages.
Lets chat about the characters, shall we? I really liked Joclyn, like a lot. She was a girl that kept to herself and shied away from others whenever possible. She doesn't like attention and stayed hidden under a hoodie all the time. But I knew even then that she was such a good character that I would like. Not once, even with all the crap she went through, did I think she came off whiny. Yeah, she did cry a lot, but the chick was in constant pain for a huge part of the story. So that is not the same.
Then there was Ryland and Ilyan. I have to talk about these two together for a reason. The reason? Because I cannot decide which one I like more. Now don't think there is a love triangle, so don't get all twitchy on me, ok? I know how some of you guys hate love triangles. But this one, isn't really one. Ryland and Joclyn care about each other a lot. They are the best of friends. But soon feelings grow between the two. But as things explode about in Joclyn's life, she is introduced to new people.
And that is where Ilyan enters. Even though it is never mentioned, you can tell that he has feelings for Joclyn.  I think there is more there with him and I find myself leaning more towards him. I am definitely going to read book 2, EYES OF EMBER, just to see how it all turns out.
KISS OF FIRE is one of those books that demands your full attention. From the midpoint of the book, things take off and action is amped up. Lives will be lost, lines will be drawn, and sacrifices will be made. This is one book that will pull you in and have you wanting more in the end.
