Explorer Meriwether
Lewis has been stuck in Nowhere since his mysterious death nearly two centuries
ago. His last hope for redemption is helping nine-year-old Emmaline Cagney flee
her madame mother in New Orleans and find her father in Nashville. To get there,
Merry must cross his own grave along the Natchez Trace, where he duels the
corrupt Judge, an old foe who has his own despicable plans for Em.
A genre-bending novel
that usually falls through the cracks as agents and publishers struggle to
figure out ‘what shelf does it go on?‘ To Live Forever is a rich palimpsest of
history, suspense, paranormal and biography, inventing a category of fantastic
fiction.
To Live Forever is
published in paperback and e-book versions, and is available at Amazon, Kindle,
Barnes & Noble, Nook, Kobo, iBook, and in many independent bookstores.
A Great Father’s Day Read
To Live Forever is an ennobling story about the power and significance of the father/daughter relationship, played out in a fantastical novel set along the Natchez Trace. To celebrate its publication in March, Ms. Watkins hiked the entire 444-mile length of the Trace with her father along in support. She is the only living person known to have hiked the Trace in one continuous walk from Natchez to Nashville, just as the pioneers did prior to the rise of steam power in the 1820’s. From March 1, 2014 to April 3, 2014, she walked fifteen miles a day. Six days a week. One rest day per week. She spent each night in the modern-day equivalent of stands, places much like Grinder’s Stand, where Meriwether Lewis died from two gunshot wounds on October 11, 1809.
The journey that Ms. Watkins took with her father parallels the novel’s plot line and enriches the reading of the story. The experience of the walk has inspired her upcoming memoir of the adventure, Not Without My Father, due for publication in Fall 2014.
