Tate Halloway lives life to the fullest. She had a rough childhood and a
rougher adolescence. Now that she’s away at school and on her own for the first
time in her life, nothing can hold her back from making the most out of every
single day. Well, just that one thing. But she refuses to think about. And why
would she, when life is so much more fun when you’re living it, experiencing
every little thing.
When she bumps into Bridger Wright, a childhood friend that was both a
bully and a serious crush, she starts to see that not everyone thinks like her.
She’s always had a thing for Bridger, but the guy she catches up with is a far
cry from the little boy that used to put toads down her dress and pull her
ponytails. She knows there’s more to Bridger than this sulking, disconnected
version of him and she’s bound and determined to pull it out of him.
Bridger Wright has been spurned in love more than once. He always seems to
trust the wrong girls and end up with a broken heart. He’s tired of it. And he
has resolved himself to a life without love. He believes he’s better off, if
only he could convince Tate too. Tate bursts into Bridger’s life like sunlight
through clouds. She’s vivacious, energetic and adventurous. But she’s not
without secrets. Just as Bridger starts to open up to her demanding presence
and the feelings he can’t seem to deny, his trust is broken again.
Bridger and Tate are forced to face each other and the pain of their past.
Neither wants to face their demons and deal with their hurt, but neither can
deny the depth of their feelings for each other.
Their brazing love will take work and sacrifice. Both are capable of giving
to each other. Both will have to decide whether or not it’s worth it.
My take...
When Tate runs into her childhood crush, she is determined to make him
remember her. Then she wants to put him in his place for the many times he
tormented her as a kid. What happens instead is something amazing and beautiful
and heartbreaking. Utterly heartbreaking.
I am absolutely, positively, 100% in love with this book. I didn't think I
would like it more than STRIKING but I was proved wrong. I loved it 10 times
more. I loved seeing Stockton, Cami and Willa show up in all their craziness.
But it was Tate and Bridger that sold me on the story. Could not get enough of
these two. Would have gladly read for days about them and the nonsense they put
themselves through.
I totally get that Bridger has been hurt in the past. That is
understandable. But the best part was seeing him slowly emerge from that
darkness he allowed himself to be consumed in. Of course, none of the emerging
would have been possible if not for the quirky and fun loving red head, known
as Tate, hadn't have happened. This girl is something else. And she just comes
barreling into his life like a cannon aiming perfectly for its target.
I adored the storyline oh so much. Oh yes. It definitely had me teary eyed
in all the right spots and rolling with laughter at times too. And the romance?
AHH! It was perfectly done. Lots of swooning to be had. I have some mad love
for Higginson and Felix for writing a book that had me enduring all these
powerful emotions.
I couldn't have asked for a more fabulous read. Even better is knowing that
West is getting his story next. And after experiencing him like we did in this
one...you know it will be one heck of a story. He is crazy and adorable all
rolled into one, but he is most definitely an experience you won't soon forget.
Loved the book! Loved these characters! Loved it all! 5 Stars all the way!
