Title: CHASING LUCK
Author: Brinda Berry
Source: Amazon
goodreads...
Sometimes surviving doesn’t feel lucky. Especially when you’re a sole
survivor...
At the age of seven, Malerie walked away from a bombing that left hundreds
dead—including her mother. When a crazed gunman kills her guardian on her
eighteenth birthday, Malerie suspects there may be more to her survival than
luck. A mysterious code holds the key to her future, and a reluctant white
knight holds the key to her heart.
A loner wearing emotional armor…
Ace is a twenty-year-old entrepreneur focusing on two things in life:
financial security and a life without ties. A life that doesn't risk losing the
ones who matter. When Ace is hired to secretly act as a bodyguard for Malerie,
he faces an unwanted attraction that threatens to sabotage his heart. Can Ace
find the courage to love a girl with a death wish?
My take...
*I rated this book 4.5 stars but when leaving a review at sites such as
Goodreads, Amazon, etc…I round up to the next highest star!
Not too long ago I got CHASING LUCK over on Amazon. I thought I better get
a jump on reading it since I would be hosting Berry in an author signing this
coming weekend. And let me tell you, from the start I was intrigued and didn't
want to put the book down. So I read and I read and I devoured. This storyline
had me sucked in; contemplating whether or not the supernatural was crossing
over into this suspenseful romantic read. Was it? Read and discover for
yourself.
Now I say it is a romantic read, but a lot of the romance comes later. Of
course there is the internal bickering each of the characters has with
themselves. Especially Ace. He is tormented about his feelings for Malerie and
the job he is hired to do. But the romance was perfectly paced and I was ready
for it when it’s time to shine came up. And I must admit, it was nicely done.
Could I relate to the characters? Not really. Both have pasts that affect
their present. And it wasn't relatable to me. But I still felt for them, mainly
Malerie. So much happens to her in her short life you can't help by feel for
her.
Really happy I gave this book a go and found a new author that I will
happily read her other works. Definitely hope you give CHASING LUCK a chance
and check out this unique storyline. 4.5 Stars!!
Check out book 2...
When two worlds collide, it can only be fate.
Collin knows trouble when he sees it. A beautiful girl crashing into his car? She should be flashing a neon DANGER sign. He knows better than to get involved with a fresh-faced babe who could break his already-tattered heart. After graduating from college, he's on track to start over in a new place. He's discovering what he wants from life, away from the shadow of his overbearing father and the betrayal of his cheating ex-fiancé.
Veronica's home life morphs from trailer park to homeless after a bloody fight between her brother and her ex. She's on the run from a situation that promises to be deadly. Without a home, money, or friends, she's at Collin's mercy.
Fate brought them together. Will a secret from her past tear them apart?

Brinda Berry lives in the southern US with her family and two spunky cairn terriers. She's terribly fond of chocolate, coffee, and books that take her away from reality. She doesn't mind being called a geek or “crazy dog lady”. When she's not working the day job or writing a novel, she's guilty of surfing the internet for no good reason.
If you are in Arkansas this weekend...be sure to stop by.
