POCKETFUL OF SAND by M. Leighton {Review/Giveaway}

“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I honestly don't know where to begin when writing my review. I had thoughts about what I wanted to say before I got to the ending. But then this book went in a direction I didn't see coming. Out of nowhere I was slapped in the face. A good slap in the face. A thankful to the author slap in the face. So what I had planned to say just went out the window. Of course it was all good, but measly sounding after finishing this book that I absolutely loved.

Leighton is a powerful storyteller. There is no question about that. I fall into a trance like state any time I read one of her books. This one was no different. And like all the others she has written, I was immediately taken in. Her imagination becomes so realistic when she puts it into words. I am just in awe of her as a person and an author.

With how Leighton describes everything, this book very well could have been a movie I was watching on tv. I saw everything so vividly. A movie I would have gladly watched over and over again.

There is a scene that is pretty rough to read about. So much so, I was torn between skipping over it or pushing through it. It hurt me to the core to hear of this character's past. It was inconceivable; so unimaginable. I wanted to reach in and help them through it and take away their pain. So in the end, I decided to push through and bare their hurt. And I am very glad I did. I learned more about this character and felt a stronger connection.

And there is a huge, major, colossal surprise at the ending. HUGE!! I cannot wait for you to read it and decide how you take it. Oh how I wish I could say more. 5 Absolutely Amazing Stars!
