The Bed Wife Chronicles: Love brought them together.
Would tradition tear them apart?
When Baylin and Luana find out she is with child, they
are certain the worst is behind them. As Luana and Baylin’s relationship grows
stronger every day, the entire Kingdom of Grasmere celebrates the prospect of
an heir to the throne. However, the arrival of the royal family from Mirstone
not only brings the chance of another deadly troll war, but also the prospect
of an arranged marriage of the Kingdoms.
In the midst of it all, Baylin is forced to choose between
his love for Luana and his fealty to his father and the Kingdom – knowing that
his decision could potentially set the Keld Kingdoms against each other during
a savage war.
Will Luana and Baylin be able to overcome the demands
of the Kingdom and find happiness? Or will they be forced apart by duty,
bloodshed and strife?
“It is amiable that you
care for the girl, but it is folly,” the King said, trying to steady his tone.
“Father,” Baylin tried
to interrupt.
“Enough!” The King said
in a final tone.
The room went
completely silent. The tension was thick and heavy in the air. Luana looked
down in her lap quietly, fearful to make eye contact with the King.
After a few quiet
moments the King continued, “Now, I was thinking that since she is already
going to be our guest here, you might consider Princess Isla. You’ve known one
another since you were young and it would surely solidify faith with King
Gideon that we mean to make right on our plan to assist in retaking Mirstone.”
“I do not want Isla!”
Baylin shouted, knocking his chair back as he stood abruptly to his feet. “I
will not yield on this father.”
The King sighed and
rubbed his wrinkled forehead. His face changed to a mournful expression as he
looked up at his son. “We all make sacrifices for the good of the Kingdom,
Baylin. You must do your duty.”
“Ashmur,” the Queen
began attempting to urge the King to reconsider. Baylin paced back and forth,
bawling his fists.
Luana watched the scene
unfold before her, as though she was not really even in the room. The three
argued about her and this Princess Isla, as though they were pieces of property
to be secured.
Isla.
The name caused bile to rise up in the back of Luana’s throat. So this is who will take Baylin from me.
The large room felt
suddenly very small to Luana. It was filled with sounds and smells that
assaulted her senses. She could not take it anymore. Respect or not she had to
leave the room.
She stood abruptly,
tipping her chair back and losing her balance. She stretched her arms out,
trying to catch herself. She reached for the edge of the table but missed and
her hand knocked a tray of cheese onto the stone floor with a crash. She swayed
backward, her feet going weak under her. Just before her body hit the floor,
Baylin caught her in his arms. His mouth was open and he was saying something
to her but she could not hear the words. Then there was nothing but darkness.
*5 years ago: what were you doing?*
I started my own online handmade bridal accessory business back in 2009 (which I still do work with today in between writing and raising my children). It was highly successful and was featured in numerous bridal magazines.
*Do you have a certain writing ritual?*
I make sure all distractions are off (phone, tv, children lol). I get myself a glass of ice water AND a glass of diet dr pepper (need that caffeine) and sit it on the table next to my chair. I make sure I have pencils and paper and my 'Boogie Board' along with my folder that I keep all my notes in. After I get everything I need, I grab my quilt and some pillows and snuggle down in my 'fat chair' (that's what I call it, it is actually a two person chair) and start writing :)
*What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?*
I had a reviewer say they loved my book but gave it a 2 star rating purely because it was a cliffhanger. I mean, I get it, cliffhangers are not everyone's thing. But I LOVE cliffhangers. That's why I watch shows like "The Walking Dead" and "Once Upon a Time". I love that "What's going to happen?" feeling. I see it as 'episodes', but I also understand that they are not everyone's cup of tea. Once my 'The Bed Wife Chronicles' series is done, I am going to compile it into one large novel for those who wish to read it all in one sitting.
*Is there an author you'd like to meet?*
I'd have to say Jim Butcher. I absolutely LOVE his Dresden Files series. His style of writing is something that really intrigues me and I would love to be able to sit down with him for an hour and ask him advice as well as get a couple autographs ;)
*Fav song and/or singer*
I would have to say that my favorite musicians over the years would have to be the Backstreet Boys (cringes as people roll their eyes). I have been to several of their concerts and even got to run to the stage and meet one of them. The crowd behind me was pressing against me so hard, I started to go under the stage and Brian (the Backstreet Boy) grabbed my hand and pulled me up. So I guess they're my favorite because who else can say they were saved by a Backstreet Boy? lol
*Guilty pleasure*
I have a very big obsession with notepads, particularly post it notes. lol
