Trish Grant is not a romantic. Okay, so she may read her share of romance novels, but that doesn’t mean she thinks that some fellow with a six pack is going to ride up on a horse and sweep her (literally) off her feet. Romance like that just isn’t for her. It belongs on the page.
Max Jackson noticed Trish at his cousin’s funeral, of all places. She was hard to miss with her citrus-colored hair, violet contacts and fiery attitude.
Trish was just as captivated by Max. He makes her laugh, which is rare, and it doesn’t hurt that he rocks blue hair and the most killer smirk that drives her crazy. Max is there for her during a rough time and even if she wanted to, she can’t shake him.
There are things about Trish that Max doesn’t know, and she’s not going to tell him. She hasn’t told anyone and doesn’t plan on it, thank you very much. But when Trish’s life is ripped apart by a dark piece of her past, will she let Max in? Or will she give up her potential fairytale to protect her already-scarred heart from further damage?

I can’t believe I’m done with the fourth book in this
series. It doesn’t seem real. At the beginning, I only intended to write one
book. I’d just started writing the new adult category and I wanted to do more,
but I wanted to something really intense. The first book spawned from one
question: “what if you feel in love with someone you hated?” I tried to answer
that question in Deeper We Fall, which I had to stop at 40,000 words through to
start over and rewrite. That was one of the most painful things I’ve ever done,
but the book blossomed into something beautiful and heartbreaking that I still
love re-reading.
The secondary characters in Deeper We Fall were so real
and vibrant to me that I couldn’t let that be the end. What about Will? What
about Katie? What about Trish? What about Simon? I wanted to know what was
going to happen to all of them, so I kept writing. Stryker and Katie were next
and I had the best time because I have (to this day) a HUGE crush on him. Who
doesn’t love a tatted/pierced guy who can play any instrument, sing and do
incredible art? No one in their right mind, that’s who. Then it was Will and
Audrey’s turn and it was fun to write Lottie’s twin. I’m an only child, so
sibling relationships are always a blast for me to write. FINALLY, it was time
for Trish. I’d been a huge fan of her since she popped up in Deeper We Fall
with her citrus-colored hair, violet contacts and awesome attitude. I didn’t
know what kind of guy could keep up with her and I didn’t know much about Max
until I wrote this book. I’ve loved exploring Trish’s love story, even if it
was a rocky one. She’s got a lot of scars from her past that affect her deeply.
It’s nearly impossible for her to just trust people, but she makes the effort
for Max because she loves him. Even when she’s trying to deny it and ignore it,
she can’t. But letting him love her back is a whole other thing and it takes
her a lot of work to get there.
There will be one more (maybe more? who knows) book in
the series which features Simon (Will’s roommate) and his boyfriend Brady, who
we meet in the first book. It’s going to be a challenge to show a couple that
has already been together, but I don’t believe that relationships are intense
and tumultuous just at the beginning. Their struggle is going to be if they’re
still following the same path, and if they’re not, can they come back together?
I love this series, so, so much. I’m very proud of it and
I’ve put the best of myself as a writer and the kinds of love stories that I
enjoy to read in this series. If you haven’t read the books, I hope you’ll take
a chance on them.
