Interview
with B. Brumley
Tell
us about the faerie or faeries in your book.
Arún is my pale, pointy-eared Fae
hunk. Thanks to a prophecy from his home realm, he’s been waiting for my fallen
angel, Woe, to show up in New York City. The winged warrior makes a habit of
saving Woe from danger, but she can’t decide whether she likes him or not.
What
inspired your book?
Noir. The classic noir movies.
The movies themselves were black and white, but every decision was a gray. I
wanted to write a broken heroine. I think she more accurately reflects reality.
After that, it became a City of Angels meets The League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen. I loved both of those concepts.
Who
would you cast for the main characters in your book?
She’s almost too baby-faced, but
I loved Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit. I think she’d be great in stand-offs
with Father Jason and when she tells Arún what she thinks. She has just the
right amount of vulnerability and spunk to play Woe, my fallen angel.
Chris Hemsworth would make a
fantastic Arún. He’d have to bleach his hair white and wear contacts that make
his eyes silver, but I think he could pull off the pointed ears. And he’d for
sure be able to pull off the line, “Shirtless in Central Park like he owned the
place.”
As far as Jason, the priest in my
story, I’d probably pick a bearded Gerard Butler. He’s such a versatile actor.
I mean anybody that can be King Leonidas can do my team-leader-priest, right?
