Goodreads…

Kyon Ensin finally has what he’s always wanted: possession of Kricket Hollowell, the priestess who foresees the future. Together, their combined power will be unrivaled. Kricket, however, doesn’t crave the crown of Ethar—she has an unbreakable desire to live life on her own terms, a life that she desperately wants to share with her love, Trey Allairis.

As conspiracies rage in the war for Ethar, Kricket’s so-called allies want to use her as a spy. Even those held closest cannot be trusted—including Astrid, her sister, and Giffen, a member of a mysterious order with a hidden agenda. But Kricket’s resolve will not allow her to be used as anyone’s pawn, even as the Brotherhood sharpens its plans to cut out her heart.

As the destiny prophesied by her mother approaches, Kricket will backtrack through her fiery future to reshape it. For she knows one thing above all else: the only person she can truly count on is herself.

My take…

“You can run from your love for me, but know this: I will hunt you anywhere,” he promises.

Do y’all know how excited I was to start this book? Like crazy, immediately had to start this book as soon I I finished SEA OF STARS excited. I just knew that Trey and Kricket would find their way back to each other. They had too. Their love was too strong. Their souls intertwined. But when things started looking bleak, I took to goodreads and the reviews to find out what laid ahead of me. It wasn’t good. Many a review gave way to my worst fears.

But I kept reading. The pull to this story and to Kricket was enough to keep me going. Like one person mentioned in a review, it did feel like this wasn’t the same Kricket we all grew to love. The choices she was making, the feelings that were developing...it all went against everything we knew about her. But again, I kept reading. I couldn’t stop. I had to know how this all ends.

As I come undone, I whisper his name with the darkest park of my heart.

Right along with Kricket, my feelings for a certain character started changing as well. What is this madness? What is Bartol doing to me? What is happening here? The story was fantastic and kept me glued to the pages, but I am still trying to cope with these new feelings. My heart was in utter chaos; tossed around in the emotion of it all.

In the end, I still loved the story. I just didn’t care for the ending. The romantic in me wanted and needed more. But I still respect Bartol as an author, telling her story the way she needed to tell it. But why couldn’t it have ended differently?

4 Stars!
