Mini Review: Overnight Sensation by Hal Eisenberg {plus Give@way}

Title: Overnight Sensation

Author: Hal Eisenberg

Source: paperback from author for review

goodreads...
Fifteen year-old Jonah Levine is practically invisible at Applecrest High. His Facebook page is pathetic, his baseball skills are mediocre at best, and his IQ seems to drop 50 points when talking to girls. But everything changes when his rock band, Hitstreak, becomes the hottest teen sensation in the country. And now they’re about to perform in front of 15,000 screaming fans.
So why isn’t he jumping for joy?
Well, for starters, that hit on the radio wasn’t really recorded by his band. In fact, six months ago, he and his friends could barely play a note between them. And now they’re about to perform in front of 15,000 screaming fans. What begins as a mindless prank quickly spins out of control, involving his father’s secret past as a 70’s rocker, a high school bully who wants in on the action, and a powerful, ruthless, media mogul who will stop at nothing to claim the band as his own. Will Jonah prevail? Or will he and his band go down in flames and become the biggest farce in pop music history?

My Mini take...
Fifteen year old Jonah is about to embark on the greatest journey of his young life. Jonah finds out that his dad used to be in a band once upon a time…and was actually pretty awesome. So when his dad and his old band mates get together and produce a song…Jonah sends it to his buddies to see what they think. One of the boys sends it to a local radio station which in turns sets everything into motion. And boy what a crazy ride these kids are on.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about Overnight Sensation when I first started reading it. The main character is a fifteen year old boy named Jonah. That is where my problem usually would be. I don't do well with stories whose main POV is a young boy. But gosh, Eisenberg did a really good job. I was surprised by how well he captured that age and he had the dialogue between characters just right. The banter between the boys is hilarious. I think I liked Jess and Jonah the best. But each of the boys brings something different and fun to the story.

This book is perfect for any reader…boy or girl…young or old. I would definitely let my daughters read this one if they wanted to. And it is one I recommend to any music lover. The author writes a story that is full of heart and I just know you are going to enjoy it. Pick up Overnight Sensation and you will know what I mean. Enjoy!
