goodreads...
Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

My take...

I adore how the whole atmosphere of this book differs from that of TEN TINY BREATHS. Of course it would. Livie and Kacey are two totally different people...or are they? Sure their looks show a vast difference and their personalities couldn't be more different. Livie was always the quiet, responsible one; always wanting to help others. Kacey was the reckless one who took to drugs to cover her pain. But when dealing with Dr. Stayner (yay!! Loved him in the first book), Livie starts to realize they might not be so different after all. Livie has issues but she keeps them hidden and tucked far away from the world. And with his help she may very well be able to break free from the constraints that have been holding tight ever since the day she lost her parents. Constraints that have long been holding her back from being the real Livie.
I was so frickin happy to see that Dr. Stayner was back in full force in this book. I think some of my favorite moments from TEN TINY BREATHS was with him and Kacey. He is totally unconventional when it comes to dealing with his patients, but Livie is not one of his patients. At least that is what she keeps telling herself. Over and over again. But lord help me! The things he says and has Livie do cracked me up. I think if everyone had him as their doctor the world would be a much better place. I could see how much he cared for Livie and Kacey throughout the story. Almost like seeing a father figure for them since they have been without one ever since they lost their own. It was wonderful and heartwarming.
And then there was Ashton. Who might he be you ask? Only the best darn male-whore of Princeton. Girls who've had him want him again....and again. They could care less about his reputation and just want what is in his pants. And he is happy to oblige. But I still loved him anyhow. This guy is broken and busted but he still had my heart. He too is hiding his past and his hurts away from the world until slowly, ever so slowly, he lets Livie in. Revealing more of himself to her than he has to anyone ever.
Tucker did an amazing job with this one and telling Livie's story. I really felt as if I was there inside the story, inside Livie's head. You will be put through the ringer with this book and come out gasping for air. Trust me on that one. I thought this one would be a little tamer and laid back than TEN TINY BREATHS...since we were dealing with tame, laid back Livie. But boy was I wrong. I hurt (like really hurt), I laughed (so, so much), I cried (many times), and I fell in love all over again with Tucker and her amazing ability to tell a story that becomes a part of you. The characters are my friends...the story is relatable...the emotions are real and raw. And yes, it is one of my absolute favorites this year. Just as TEN TINY BREATHS was last year. So thankful for the opportunity Tucker has given me to read and review these amazing, beautiful, hilarious stories.
Also, I would like to note that Kathleen wanted me to mention the ever famous pack mule that was mentioned in my review for TEN TINY BREATHS in this review. Truth is she dared me. Juvenile right? But that is how Kathleen is. Sheesh. Of course I accepted the challenge and of course I have failed miserably at inserting it in at the right place. So raise a glass and lets remember Pack Mule for the laughs he brought.
Rest in Peace Pack Mule. You were loved, but alas I should move on.
*Kacey and her issues*

I just heard this song for the first time the day I was reading ONE TINY LIE and thought that it fit Ashton and Livie so well.

Author Bio:

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit.
