goodreads...
A new dystopian novel from the author of Jenny Pox - coming July 26.

They took everything: her family, her home, her childhood.

By the age of nineteen, Raven has spent most of her life in the sprawling slums of America, fighting as a rebel against the dictatorship. When the rebellion steals an experimental time-travel device, she travels back five decades to the year 2013. Her plan: assassinate the future dictator when he is still young and vulnerable, long before he comes to power. She must move fast to reshape history, because agents from her own time are on her trail, ready to execute her on sight.

My take...
Raven has been thrust back into the past and for a short time she cannot remember why. Slowly, bits and pieces of her memories are remembered and she understands that she came back for one reason and one reason only. Raven is to kill the brutal dictator that has wreaked havoc on her world for far too long, before he can ever take reign. But a guest appearance from a friend leads her to believe that killing the dictator will not help her world or the future her people deserve. So she has to come up Plan B: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

I so enjoyed this story. Even though it is classified as a Dystopian story, 99% of the book takes place in 2013. So, technically it is not really Dystopian per se, as it is a Sci-fi read. But still, it was excellent. You are probably wondering why I would rate it 4.5 stars if I thought it was excellent, right? Well, here is the thing...it was the Sci-fi'ish vibe and there was some parts that had me totally lost. There is a scene that her 'friend' was explaining as to why she was there and the 'talk' absolutely had me spinning. I had no idea which way is up and what the flip he was saying. Here's the deal...I don't do Sci-fi books well.I guess you could say I am Sci-fi intolerant. I don't get them and it is hard for me to relate. I am just not a Sci-fi kind of girl. Once the 'talk' was over I enjoyed the book and just took his word that it would all come together for me in the end. And yes, yes it did.

Raven was a fantastic character that I loved from the start. Even though she just met one of the characters at the very beginning, you could tell she had a real good heart when something happened to him. It concerned her and that made me like her even more. As for Logan, I liked him, but I wasn't crazy about him. I didn't get that connection for the two of them. But that very well could have been the author's intent all along. When you read and finish the story you will see why I am thinking this. Not the typical ending I like for my books to take, but a great one none the less. I was very happy with it and the whole book overall.

Enjoy books that give off the Sci-fi vibe? Love time travel reads? Well then this is the book for you. NOMAD is a definite must read!

  1. I haven't read one of his books before but this was already on my Goodreads to-read list because I saw some great reviews for it.

  2. I LOVE JL Bryan's books. Let's see. I've read the whole Jenny Pox series, LOVE the Fairy Blues series... More recently I read Dominion, but I think my favorite was Helix. I wanted more!

  3. I must say I really like your style of review. I'm not good with sci-fi either but seeings how the story takes place mostly in 2013 it might be ok. I mean how cool is that?

I loved J.L Bryan's Jenny Pox series. Haven't been able to read all of the Faery ones yet but will get there soon hopefully.
