5*Review: SEA OF STARS by Amy A. Bartol

Title: Sea of Stars

Goodreads…

Eighteen-year-old Kricket Hollowell was looking for her place in the world when she discovered that the universe was bigger—and more dangerous—than she had ever dreamed. Now, whisked across space to the planet Ethar, Kricket learns that her genetic ability to see the future makes her a sought-after commodity…and the catalyst for war between her star-crossed parents’ clans. According to Alameedan prophecy, one house will rise to power and the other will be completely wiped out, and Kricket’s precognition is believed to be the weapon that will tip the scales.

A target of both the Rafe and the Alameeda houses, Kricket finds protection—and a home—in the arms of Trey, her Etharian bodyguard-turned-boyfriend. But her visions of what’s to come disturb her deeply, especially since she must discover whether the gift of foresight will allow her to rewrite the future, or if her fate is as immovable as the stars.

My take…

His whispering voice is soft upon the shell of my ear, "if this doesn't work out for us, Kricket, know that I've loved you from the moment I held you in my arms on Ethar, and every moment in between. I will love you even after my final breath." ***

When I finished UNDER DIFFERENT STARS I absolutely could not wait to see what would happen next for Kricket and Trey. I was hoping that maybe things would get better for her and they could start their life together. Yeah, that didn’t happen. Things just went from bad to worse for the two.

So much happens in this book. I was whisked from one event to another. Throughout the story, Kricket is dealt love, heartbreak, and thrown into ambushes over and over again. And unfortunately, is always on the verge of losing her life. See? No such luck in finding the peace and quiet with the man she loves. Maybe in the next one? We will just have to see.

Kricket is one of those amazing female characters. I adore her spirit and her ability to face any situation with a calm composure when it surely calls for fiery chaos. She always has a witty, sarcastic response to rile the enemy and put them in their place even if she is screaming inside. She is one of the main reasons I flew through the pages of this amazing book. I craved her character and had to know her story.

If I didn’t already love Trey, I would have definitely fell for him in this book. There is so much to love about him. But my favorite was his undying, all encompassing love he had for Kricket. He was willing to do whatever it took to be with her. The romance was real in this one.

My heart cannot wait a second longer to see how this series ends. I am off to see what happens and get the answers to the questions we are left holding.
