Author J. Naomi Ay has stopped by the blog today to take part in my Top 10. Her book is The Boy who Lit up the Sky (The Two Moons of Rehnor).
After a thousand years of war, the Mishnese and Karupta have made peace by wedding the Mishnese Princess Royal to the Karupta Crown Prince. Their son whose birth was foretold ten centuries ago is destined to rule the entire planet and end the wars forever. But the Princess and the baby have died during childbirth or so it was said. In the meantime, a strange half-breed infant boy is left at an orphanage with a purse full of gold coins. The Boy who Lit up the Sky follows the early years of Senya from the streets of Old Mishnah, to the Palace of Mishnah and from there to Karuptani where he is taught to live off the land and fight for that which is his. Along the way, he finds the Human girl who unbeknownst to her, shares his important destiny.
1. guilty
pleasure? Napping while everyone is at school and work. I only need about 20
minutes but still feel so horrible that everyone else has to drink 5 -Hour
Energy or 400 colas to get the same result.
2. 1 book you could read
over and over? Pride and Prejudice.
3. fictional character
you would love to spend the day with? Captain Kirk. I
would love to spend a day or two on the Starship Enterprise.
4. one thing you cannot
leave the house without? My iPhone and my iPad
which I suppose means that eventually, I’ll have to migrate to something that
has all the capabilities but is an in-between size.
5. fav
song/singer? Viva la Vida from Coldplay
6. worst
vacation? I have had a lot of bad ones but one
year we were on a ship sailing to Hawaii. Normally, I love cruises but the
weather was horrid from the get go and every one of us (5) ended up miserably
sick. My oldest had strep throat and the rest of us some kind of cold/flu
thing. By the time we flew home, all of us had completely stuffed ears that
didn’t become unblocked for about six weeks afterward. On top of that, because
the weather was so horrid, the ship couldn’t dock or tender in to several of the
ports. Basically, we ended with 12 days at sea, pitching and rocking and
coughing our lungs out.
7. fave movie/actor and
or/actress? Colin Firth.
8. one place you would
love to visit? St. Petersburg, Russia.
9. pet
peeve?
Commas and apostrophes. I think they all should be banned.
10. do you collect
anything?
I’m an obsessive compulsive beachcomber and cannot take a walk without a small
baggie for collecting beach glass and a large canvas tote for collecting nice
rocks.
Commas and apostrophes banned? Absolutely. I was never good in English when learning all this stuff...so I am sure all my reviews are in desperate need of an edit overhaul.
And I think one of my guilty pleasures would be naps. Hubs always asks when he gets home if I had one that day. ;)
