2013 End of Year Book Survey at I Read Indie

This is the 4th annual book survey started off by The Perpetual Page Turner. And my 2nd year to participate.

1. Best Book You Read In 2013?
I can't just choose one so here it is broken down...
*Any and all of Lila Felix's books but BURDEN is my favorite of hers. It is a shifter read and will release in Jan 2014.

*THE SCRIBE by Elizabeth Hunter (Urban Fantasy/Paranormal)

*ALL THE PRETTY LIES by M. Leighton (NA Contemp/Romance)

*ORIGIN by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Aliens/Paranormal)

*LOVE AND DECAY series by Rachel Higginson. (Zombies/Paranormal)

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t? STORM WARNING by E. Lee and C. Quinn. I loved all the lead up for the story before it came out and when I actually got to read it, it just fell short for me. I didn't even review it. And COVET by Tracey Garvis Graves. That book was just not at all what I was expecting. Meh, not at all.
 3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2013? WATERPROOF by Amber Garr. I wasn't sure what to expect about a world where water is practically nonexistent. But it ended up being a great read. And I look forward to more.
 4. Book you read in 2013 that you recommended to people most in 2013? I absolutely loved BET IN THE DARK by Rachel Higginson and would share the crap out of it. And I was constantly recommending Lila Felix's books. Love her. Love her books!
 5. Best series you discovered in 2013? Hands down...the LOVE AND DECAY series by Rachel Higginson.

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2013? Probably Jen McLaughlin, Jen Frederick and Eliza Gordon. I know, it is 3 authors. But I can cheat a little. Right?

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you? I think that would have to be WITCH HEARTS by Liz Long. I am not usually a huge fan of witch reads but this one was great!
 8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2013? Thrilling? Unputdownable? Wow! I had a few of those. But I was sitting on the edge of my seat with NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE by Kirsty Moseley.

 9. Book You Read In 2013 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year? I would love to re-read THE SCRIBE by Elizabeth Hunter.
10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2013? I adore the covers of SEEKING HAVOK by Lila Felix, THE SCRIBE by Elizabeth Hunter, and SUDDENLY ROYAL by Nichole Chase

11. Most memorable character in 2013? Gosh, I really don't know. I guess if I had to go back through all my reads I would go to Falcon Black from Lila Felix's HOW IT ROLLS. But the awesome thing about him...he is in other books of the series as well. So it is not like you are finished with him once his book is over. Great character. Sweet character, too!

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2013? I may sound like a broken record here...but I believe it is THE SCRIBE by Elizabeth Hunter. The way she spins a book is so beautiful no matter the genre.
13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2013? Greatest impact? Wow, another hard one to answer. Maybe WHAT’S LEFT OFME by Amanda Maxlyn. It tore me up and spit me out. Had me thinking about how I would react if I had cancer. Would I act the same way as Aundrea? Truly a powerful read.

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2013 to finally read? EASY by Tammara Webber. Even though it just came out in Sept 2012, I still felt late to the party. But loved it oh so much.
 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2013?
This is the end of the world. This was it. In all its deathly, gruesome glory. This was nightmares come to life-biggest fears, unthinkable dangers, the chilling, grisly menace of trying to survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
And one thought kept running through my head. What if this wasn't the end of the world? What if this was only the beginning. - Love and Decay epi #9
(That is just one of my favorite quotes from books this year.)

16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2013? Shortest was probably A MERMAID FOR CHRISTMAS by Nichole Chase. Longest? That would probably be NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE by Kirsty Moseley. Both were excellent!
 17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers! ALL THE PRETTY LIES by M. Leighton. That book had me itching to talk to Michelle about it. In fact, I had to email her immediately to ask her some questions.

18. Favorite Relationship From A Book You Read In 2013 (be it romantic, friendship, etc). I think it would be Daemon and Kat from Jennifer L. Armentrout's LUX series. I have read books 2-4 this year and cannot get enough of those two. Even though they infuriate each other to no end, they really love each other as well. And they both prove it over and over again as they fight for each other.

19. Favorite Book You Read in 2013 From An Author You’ve Read Previously. I think it would be INHALE, EXHALE by Sarah M. Ross. I loved her other work, but this was by far my favorite.

20. Best Book You Read In 2013 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else: TWISTED by Amity Hope. Lila Felix recommended it and I was so glad I accepted it. Fabulous book.
21. Genre You Read The Most From in 2013? New Adult Contempory and of course Zombies!
22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2013? Hawke from BURDEN by Lila Felix…you guys will get to meet him Jan 20th 2014. My review will be out Jan 15th with a Dream Cast.

23. Best 2013 debut you read? A lot of my reads were debut books...but I think FIRST KISS by Ann Marie Frohoff was my favorite debut book/debut author.

24. Most vivid world/imagery in a book you read in 2013? Again, gonna have to go with THE SCRIBE by Elizabeth Hunter. She actually traveled over to the Middle East and researched it well. It shows in her book.
25. Book That Was The Most Fun To Read in 2013? Fun? Oh lordy. Anything that Lila Felix writes is fun. That author is 10 kinds of crazy and it shows in her words. Another hilarious read was Eliza Gordon’s MUST LOVE OTTERS. I was rolling with that one.
26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2013? I had several. But I was a blubbering mess when I finished the last book of the LOVE AND SKATE series, FALSE START. Even though Lila tried to warn me, I still wasn’t fully prepared.

27. Book You Read in 2013 That You Think Got Overlooked This Year Or When It Came Out? Oh, that is a hard one to answer. That's like saying the book wasn't great. At least it feels that way to me. So I doubt I can answer that.

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2013? I don't get the chance to visit very many blogs :(
2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2013? Eh, I just can't find it in me to toot my own horn. So I will just let you all read my reviews and see which one you liked best. To see them go HERE
3. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)? I really enjoyed the BREATHLESS reads tour that came through Memphis. Those were a great group of ladies.

 4. Best moment of book blogging/your book life in 2013? That would be meeting Lila Felix and Shelly Crane while on vacation this past spring in Gulf Shores. I knew I was going to meet Lila...but she being the sneaky sneak she is had Shelly pop in. I may have squealed. Yes, there was most definitely a squeal. I am a squealer.

5. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)? That would be when I gave away a signed copy of WIDE AWAKE by Shelly Crane. I had over 2400 views. People just love that lady! So do I!
6. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love? There was a lot of reviews I wish people would have stopped by to read. But I can’t really blame them. I don’t read reviews before I read a book. Weird right? I write them, but hardly read them.
7. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)? I think I started using rafflecopter for the first time this year and that has been a blessing, let me tell you!
8.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year? So far I am at 189 books and my goal was 175. (Actually I think I am really at 190 or 191, because there was one or two books that are not on goodreads that I have read this year.)

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2013 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2014? INSURGENT by Veronica Roth.
2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2014 (non-debut)? OUT OF MIND by Jen McLaughlin
3. 2014 Debut You Are Most Anticipating? Debut author? Not sure. Debut book? Well there are a few. But I think the ones I am most looking forward to (and have for sometime) is THE ACCIDENTAL ASSASSIN by Nichole Chase and DETHRONING CROWN by Lila Felix

4. Series Ending You Are Most Anticipating in 2014? I think the Lux series is finally coming to an end. I really cannot wait to read OPPOSITION by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging In 2014? I am not really sure. This year started off kind of rough with losing my father –n- law, then we moved twice during the summer. So I guess what I am trying to say is I would like a year without a lot of obstacles and sadness. I would like a year to read more books for me, too. I think that is what I will focus on more than anything. Just reading books I want to read and giving out more honest reviews.
