Review: LOVE AND DECAY #5 by Rachel Higginson

Title: Love and Decay #5

Author: Rachel Higginson

Source: bought on smashwords

goodreads...
Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.

Morning has come to the lonely farmhouse where Reagan, Haley and the Parkers set up camp and watched as Page came down with strep throat. Hendrix and Nelson haven’t returned from their medicine run. Page is still very sick and the “contingency plan” hangs in the air.

Determined to save the boys she has come to care so deeply about, Reagan teams up with Vaughan to set out and rescue Hendrix and Nelson from whatever trouble they’ve gotten themselves into.

However, before they can liberate anybody, they themselves are captured.

Introduced to another scary settlement, Reagan is split up from the Parker brothers and put in the custody of a boy not much older than her. Kane Allen is possessive and fierce in his attempt to own and possess Reagan. She learns a fear that even in her dangerous, Zombie-filled life, she has not known before.

Before the night is over she has to find a way to escape Kane and his horrifying captivity. She will face armed guards, starving Zombies and the worst danger of them all- Kane.

Love and Decay, Episode Five, is the fifth in a novella series in a Dystopian Romance about Zombies, the end of the world and finding someone to share it with.

This story takes place over multiple episodes, with a release date every two weeks. Approximately 20,000 words.

My take...
Hendrix and Nelson took off the night before to go in search of meds for Page, with a kid they just met. They didn't make it back, so the little punk could have very well set them up. So now it is up to Vaughan and Reagan to go and bring them back.

While out looking for them, Vaughan informs Reagan that he has feelings for her. But Reagan wants to make it absolutely clear that she isn't sure who she wants to be with: Hendrix, Vaughan, or no body at all. It is the end of the world and love is the last thing on her mind. But, when a run in with a stranger happens, he could very well change her whole way of thinking. In this new world, love may be all you have left to cling too...

Higginson does it once again, episode after episode, giving us another intense story that gets us pumped up for an actual zombie apocalypse. I really enjoyed this one, as we are back in Reagan's head, and we see her have this inner battle with herself. She likes to think of herself as strong and fierce, and trust me she is, but when conflict arises in this story, she learns a few things about herself. For one, who she really has feelings for. At least to me, it seemed like she came to one final conclusion. And I am really hoping I am right. Ahh, if it wasn’t for those darn Parker boys, Reagan would be living in drama-less bliss. But she would also be Feeder food right about now, too!

I am eager to see what happens next for these guys and gals. Now that the story is really unfolding, there is no telling what will happen and where it is going to go. And the next one comes out a week early! Look for episode 6 on Friday, Sept 13th.

Fav Line...
It didn't surprise me though, to know that any of the Parker brothers could choose whether to leave a trail or blend in completely. They were like super-human GI Joes. At the end of this whole Apocalypse thing, I was petitioning to have action figures made of them.
